Installing and Configuring Discovery Bots

Host Discovery Bots allow you to run host discoveries on remote PCs, by installing the Discovery Bot on a remote machine and configuring Easy-IP to recognise the Bot.
To run a Host Discovery from the Easy-IP web interface, you need to set up at least one Discovery Bot.
1. Configuring a Discovery Bot in Easy-IP
Before a Discovery Bot can connect to the Easy-IP server it must be added to the server configuration. To do this, open the Discovery Bot form by selecting the Tools ribbon tab and clicking the Discovery Bots button.

The form displays all the available Discovery Bots along with their corresponding discoveries. It also gives you information about the progress of discoveries.
To add a new Discovery Bot, click the Add Bot button.

Enter a descriptive name, an IP address and a shared key. You can generate a strong shared key by clicking the Generate button. The Bot will be authenticated by the Easy-IP Server using its IP address and the shared key.
You can edit or delete a Discovery Bot by clicking the appropriate button.
Note that only Administrators and Super Administrators can edit Discovery Bots and other users discoveries. Additionally, admin users can Remove, Cancel and View the logs of other users discoveries.
Once the Discovery Bot is configured in the Server Manager you can install it on a remote machine.
2. Installing and configuring the Discovery Bot
Download the Discovery Bot installer from the Easy-IP website. Once downloaded, run the installer.
When the installation has completed you will see the Discovery Bot icon
in your tool tray. Right click the icon and select Settings from the pop up menu.

3. Checking that the Discovery Bot is working.

An error will also occur if the Shared Keys do not match.
If a Discovery Bot successfully connects to the server, the connection date & time will be displayed in its Last Contact column.
