Add Root Subnets

To add a new subnet, an Autonomous Network or Group Folder must be first be selected.
Adding a New Subnet
To add a new root subnet, follow these steps:
| 1. | Click the Add Subnets button on the toolbar. The Add new root Subnet dialog box appears. Alternatively, right-click an Autonomous Network or a Group Folder, and choose Add Subnets from the menu. |
| 2. | Choose IPv4 or IPv6 from the drop-down list. |
| 3. | In the Subnet field, type the network number. You can enter the network number with or without leading zeros. |
| 4. | Click on the up/down arrows to adjust the Subnet Mask. |
| 5. | Click OK to create the new subnet, or Cancel to abort the operation. |

The Subnet Mask and associated Statistics are updated dynamically when the subnet or mask is changed.
When adding new subnets, Easy-IPv6 will automatically detect existing child subnets and move them as children to the new subnet.
For example, attempting to create 10.0.0.0/16 when several child subnets already exist, will result in the following dialog

Adding Multiple Root Subnets
There may be times when you wish to create a number of root subnets in a single operation.

To create Multiple Root Subnets, follow these steps:
| 1. | Set the Subnet and the primary Subnet Mask as before. |
| 2. | Select All Subnets or Selected Subnets from the drop down menu. |
| 3. | Set the Secondary Subnet Mask. |
As you change the subnet masks (both primary and secondary) you will see the list of available subnets change in real time. If the primary/secondary mask combination generates too many subnets a warning will be displayed and you will be able to enter the subnets manually.
If you selected All Subnets, all the subnets will be added. If you selected Selected Subnets you have the opportunity to check the subnets you want to add. The subnets can be multi selected and the checked.

Selecting Enter Subnets from the drop down menu allows you to add Subnets manually.

The subnets you enter must be valid in the context of the primary and secondary masks. The status of the subnet will be displayed in the gutter of the text editor.
If you do not enter a mask, the secondary mask will be used by default. Overlapping subnets will be verified when you click OK.
