Backup Database

||
It is essential that you create backups on a regular basis to avoid loss of important data.

Backup Frequency |
You can choose a backup frequency of Hourly, Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Never (not recommended). |
Backup Directory |
This is the location the backups will be stored. Even though the backups are compressed, they can still take up quite a bit of space on the hard drive. Additionally, the backup process requires quite a lot of free space to generate the backup (roughly 1.5 times the amount of space taken up by the original database). Make sure that your system has enough free space. |
Verify backup integrity with a test restore |
When this option is selected a test restore will be performed when the backup is complete. This option is highly recommended as it is important that you know if backups are failing. The success of backups can be viewed via the Manage Backups tool. |
Purge backups |
You can choose to delete backups that are older than a set number of days. This is useful if you have limited space on your hard drive. |
Remove change logs/ping logs |
Change logs and ping logs can often take up a lot of space in the database. These options allow you to purge log records after a successful backup. |
Recalculate database index selectivity |
When this option is checked, the selectivity of the database indices will be recalculated after a successful backup. Recalculating the indices can often improve the performance of the database, especially after a large amount of information has been added. This action is automatically performed after data is imported from an old database, but not after it is imported via the Windows Client. |
